NoodleTools & MLA 9 Works Cited Tips

Use your NoodleTools account! Sign in with your school Google username and password. 

Setting Up the Page:
  1. Open a Google doc
  2. Title the page
  3. Change the font to Times New Roman 12
  4. Double space (look for the arrow that points both up and down)
  5. Click on Format. Move your curser three down to Align and Indent. Slide over to the pull-down selections. Click on Indentation Options. Under Special, click the pull-down menu. Change to Hanging.
  6. Click on Insert. Choose Header and Page Number. Select Page Number. Choose the upper left box. Type your last name. Leave the 1 if your Works Cited is more than one page. Eliminate the 1 if your Works Cited is only one page. (example: Warren 1 or Warren)
  7. Click under the line that was created when did step 6. 
  8. Click the center align button. Type Works Cited. Use an upper case W and an upper case C. Don't forget to put an S on Work!
  9. Hit enter once and click the left align button.
  10. Enter your citations in alphabetical order.
 
Citation Help:
Important Notes:
  • When indicating page numbers, use p. for one page, use pp. for a range of pages.
  • The final copy should be in alphabetical order.
  • With the exception of May, June and July, months should be abbreviated and followed by a period. i.e. Jan. Feb. Mar.
  • Though the examples below do not show it, use a hanging indent.

One Author Author's Last Name, First Name. Title of Book: Subtitle if Any.  Publisher Name often shortened, Year of publication.  Collins, Suzanne. Hunger Games. Scholastic, 2008.
Two Authors Last Name, First Name of First Author, and First Name Last Name of Second Author. Title of Book: Subtitle if Any.  Publisher Name often shortened, Year of publication.  Reynolds, Jason, and Brendan Kiely. All American Boys. Atheneum, 2015.
Three or More Authors Last Name, First Name of First Author, et al. Title of Book: Subtitle if Any. Publisher Name often shortened, Year of publication.  Karolides, Nicholas J., et al. 120 Banned Books: Censorship Histories of World Literature. Checkmark, 2011.
Graphic Novel Title of the Book. By Author's First Name Last Name, illustrated by First Name, Last Name, Publisher's Name often shortened, Year of publication. Becoming RBG. By Debbie Levy, illustrated by Whitney Gardner, Simon and Schuster, 2019.













Periodicals from a Database
Scholarly Journal from a Database and with a DOI Number Author's Last Name, First Name. "Title of Article: Subtitle if Any." Name of Journal, vol. Volume Number, no.
