Visiting Our Schools

VISITORS AND VOLUNTEERS
We encourage parents to become involved in the life of the school. There will be many opportunities for you to volunteer your time, talents, and services. Visitors and volunteers in the classroom areas need to make arrangements in advance with their child’s teacher.

For the safety and security of its students, all doors will be locked during the day. A camera and intercom entry system has been placed in the lobby of each elementary school building. Visitors will have to press the call button to alert the Main Office of their presence. Office staff will then speak via intercom with the visitor to determine the nature of the visit prior to allowing entry. Visitors will then be admitted to the Main Office or asked to wait in the lobby for a brief moment.
Once visitors are admitted into the Main Office, they will be asked to follow the District’s existing visitor policy: provide photo identification, sign in, and wear a visitor’s pass. Visitors and volunteers must go directly to the identified location. Prior to exiting the building, visitors should report back to the Main Office to sign out.

SIGNING OUT OF CHILDREN
Please send a note with your child on the morning of the day he/she is to be excused early. Be sure to instruct your child to give the note to his/her teacher immediately upon entering the classroom. When you arrive at school, please go directly to the Main Office and provide the secretary the name of the child you are picking up. She will call the child’s classroom and have him/her sent to the Main Office. Sign your child out in the log located on the counter in the Main Office. You will be asked to show photo identification to ensure the safety of the children.

If you are picking up your child at dismissal time, you are still required to enter the building and sign him/her out following building protocols. Your child will meet you in the school’s designated location; you should not go to his/her classroom. Please wait in the designated sign out location.

AUTOMOBILE & BUS SAFETY
In the parking lot and the bus loop, as well as on all roads in the state, cars may not pass school buses that have their stop arm extended or their flashers on. This is a New York State traffic law. License plates of cars violating this law will be recorded by the bus drivers and reported to local law enforcement. The fines for this violation are substantial. The safety of the children is our first concern.

For your safety and the safety of our students, please do not park in the bus loop 40 minutes prior to the start and end of the school day or when buses are present.
