Kindergartners to Get a Fun Head Start on Bus Safety

The countdown to school bus season has officially begun, and Webster CSD's littlest learners are getting a VIP preview! Our transportation department is excited to announce the return of the Strive for Five for School Bus Safety program, now in its 18th year, giving kindergartners a head start on safe and happy bus rides.

This beloved program helps our Webster CSD kindergartners become bus-riding pros in a super fun, hands-on way by letting kindergartners (with a parent or guardian right there with them!) experience riding a school bus in a low-stress, high-fun environment. It’s all about building confidence and easing any worries about this big step!

This year’s adventure runs Monday, August 4 through Thursday, August 7. Make sure to mark your calendars for your school’s assigned date:
  • August 4 – Plank Road South Elementary School
  • August 5 – Klem Road South Elementary School and Schlegel Road Elementary School
  • August 6 – Klem Road North Elementary School and Plank Road North Elementary School
  • August 7 – Dewitt Road Elementary School and State Road Elementary School
The journey begins at Willink Middle School, 900 Publishers Parkway, where kindergartners and their parents/guardians (no additional children please) will hop aboard. Loading will begin at 5:50 p.m. with departure promptly at 6:00 p.m. They will enjoy a short bus ride to the bus garage where Webster CSD’s friendly transportation team awaits to lead the youngsters through five fun, interactive safety stations, covering everything from proper loading and unloading to identifying bus danger zones, practicing good behavior, and understanding emergency procedures. It’s hands-on learning at its best!

After mastering their bus safety skills, our newly informed kindergartners and their guardians will show off their knowledge as they re-board the buses for the ride back to Willink Middle School.
