Ready to Ride! Strive for Five Welcomes Incoming Kindergartners

Taking that first step up the giant bus stairs is a major milestone for incoming kindergartners. To help turn first-day jitters into excitement, the Webster Central School District  Transportation Department invites incoming kindergartners and their parents/guardians to the 19th annual Strive for Five for School Bus Safety event.

Designed and led by district bus drivers, this hands-on tradition gives young riders a fun preview of their school commute. Together with their drivers, children will practice five essential habits: boarding and exiting safely, crossing the street properly, identifying danger zones around the vehicle, practicing respectful bus behavior, and learning basic emergency steps.

To give kids an authentic experience, families will hop aboard a real school bus at Klem North Elementary (1015 Klem Road) for a short ride to the Webster Bus Garage (1000 Document Drive) and back. Please park in the main Klem North lot and arrive by 5:50 p.m. Buses leave promptly at 6:00 p.m. and return at approximately 7:15 p.m., rain or shine. Due to limited bus seating, attendance is restricted to new kindergartners and their parents/guardians (no additional children please).

Event Schedule

Families are encouraged to join their school's designated evening, though private, parochial, or rescheduling families are welcome at any session:

  • Dewitt Elementary: August 3

  • Klem North Elementary: August 4

  • Plank North Elementary: August 4

  • Klem South Elementary: August 5
