Webster Programmers Standout at Code Quest
On February 28, high school students from One Webster joined peers from throughout the area to test their programming skills at Lockheed Martin’s first-ever on-site Code Quest in Syracuse. The result? Teams from Webster Thomas and Webster Schroeder high schools each came home with trophies! Each year, Lockheed Martin hosts Code Quest, an annual computer programming competition where teams of two to three high school students work together to solve problems by using Java, Python, C#, and/or C++ programming to complete the “quest”. The problem set consists of 20 to 30 challenging problems created by Lockheed Martin engineers and computer programmers. The competition is held live and virtually at Lockheed Martin facilities throughout the world. This is the first year that it’s been held live at the Syracuse site.
Two teams from each Webster high school participated, with three teams competing in the novice division and one team competing in the advanced division. They tackled 30 challenging problems asking student teams to Catch a Satellite, perform a Sky Duel, complete Radar Tracking, create a Jammer Defense Network, place Guardrails for AI, and many other tasks.
Five Titans competed in the novice and advanced divisions: Caleb C., Oliver D., Emmett E., David N., and Kai Z., with seniors Caleb, Emmett and David teaming to place first in novice. Five Warriors participated in the novice division: Paolo F., Nathan M., Marne M., Rahul R., and Justin W., with the team of Paolo, Marne and Rahul placing second.
By participating in Code Quest, Webster Central School District students hone their skills amid a field of peers who are also learning programming and partake in a unique opportunity to experience Lockheed Martin’s culture and facilities, which they get to tour.
