Artists Earn Top Honors at Scholastic Awards
Budding artists from Webster CSD’s two high schools, Webster Schroeder and Webster Thomas, demonstrated exceptional creativity and skill at this year’s Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. In a strong showing of district talent, students brought home a combined total of 89 regional awards, with three students earning nominations for the highly coveted American Visions Award. The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is a prestigious annual competition for high school students across the country. This year, Webster students submitted a total of 289 entries, comprising 286 individual pieces and three portfolios. The submissions were judged at the regional level at Alfred University’s College of Art by a panel of local artists and college art professors.
Webster students received 10 Gold Keys, 29 Silver Keys, and 50 Honorable Mentions!
While all awards represent significant achievement, the district is particularly proud to announce that three of the Gold Key winners have been nominated for the American Visions Award. Congratulations to Devon G., Alaura M., and Nyah H.
Jurors from each region are permitted to select only five works total to be American Visions Award Nominees. These works are chosen based on the competition’s core values: originality, skill, and the emergence of a personal voice. These three Webster students will now compete for the national American Visions Medal, with one nominee from each region selected for the final honor.
“The quality of work produced by our students this year is truly impressive,” said Michael Roller, Webster CSD District Director of Fine Arts. “To have three students nominated for the American Visions Award is a testament to the dedication of our young artists and the strength of the art programs at both Webster Schroeder and Webster Thomas.”
The competition awards three levels of recognition: Gold Key, Silver Key, and Honorable Mention. All works awarded a Gold Key are automatically entered into the national competition. National award winners, including the recipients of the American Visions Medals, will be announced on March 26.
Congratulations to all of our award-winning artists.
