Webster CSD's Spry Middle School Hosts 9/11 Freedom Flag Raising Ceremony

Webster CSD's Spry Middle School hosted a special 9/11 flag raising ceremony in partnership with the Freedom Flag Foundation. Spry applied for and was granted a National Freedom Flag from the Freedom Flag Foundation which will be flown every year on Patriot Day, the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the US. According to the Freedom Flag Foundation, the Freedom Flag is the nation's only codified 9/11 flag of remembrance, and it has been flown or displayed in nearly 2,000 schools, fire stations, and civic buildings in all 50 states.

In addition to the Freedom Flag, Spry Middle School also received a World Trade Center steel artifact recovered from Tower 1 at Ground Zero in New York City. That artifact will be displayed at Spry for the next year along with the Freedom Flag and an explanation of what these two important objects commemorate.

Both the flag and the steel were shared with all students during the flagpole ceremony at Spry on Monday, September 11. In addition, Webster CSD employees who also serve the community as first responders attended and were recognized for their service.

Thank you to everyone at Spry who made this educational ceremony of remembrance come together in such a meaningful way.
