Vacant Board Seat Statement

Webster CSD’s Board of Education accepted the resignation of David Metzger this summer which created a vacancy on the board. Under New York State Education Law, in this type of vacancy, the board has the right to appoint a new member. There is no specific process in the law regarding board appointments. We have opted to use an open process in the spirit of inclusion and transparency. Historically, when there have been vacancies on the board, the board has utilized different appointment processes that were voted on by the board. The board is committed to finding a person to fill the seat who is aligned with our district’s values, ethics and core beliefs and is someone who is excited to work positively and collaboratively with her/his board colleagues and the superintendent. The importance of the district leadership team (board and superintendent) in its composition and its tenor has been shown through research to impact the academic results for students. Therefore, the more highly effective that team is, the more positive impact there is for students. We look forward to reviewing applications and applicants for the vacant seat.
