WCSD is pleased to announce that Jim Baehr, principal of Spry Middle School, and Rebecca Saiff, director of the Growth and Opportunity Through Alternative Learning (GOAL) program, have been named 2019 Region 11 School Administrators Association of NYS (SAANYS) Administrator of the Year Award winners (Middle and Secondary Level Award categories, respectively). SAANYS award winners were nominated by WCSD students and colleagues who admire both recipients’ commitment to the students, faculty, and staff of Spry Middle School and the GOAL program, WCSD’s alternative high school program for students in grades 9-12.

Mr. Baehr is the current principal of Spry Middle School, a position he has held since 2015. In his leadership roles as current principal and former assistant principal at Spry Middle School, Mr. Baehr has provided appropriate learning opportunities for student and staff members’ growth and is progressive with his ideas and ability to lead others across the building. As a nominator stated, “Always a vigilant advocate for students, families, and his staff, every decision Mr. Baehr makes is executed with thoughtful consideration, insightful reflection, and organized planning that involves a cohesive team of education professionals”.

Throughout her 30-year career with WCSD, Mrs. Saiff has served as a social studies teacher, department leader and lead teacher. She was assistant principal at Webster Schroeder High School prior to being named GOAL director in 2016. Mrs. Saiff always says, “GOAL is Great” and speaks of GOAL as a family. The GOAL program serves students who are not successful in the traditional high school setting.  It offers a smaller setting with a variety of supports to help students in grades 9-12 from both Thomas and Schroeder earn their Regents Diploma. As one of her nominating colleagues shared, “She embodies the true spirit of servant leadership and will do whatever needs to be done to help students succeed”.

Additionally, at the district level, Mr. Baehr and Mrs. Saiff worked closely with other Webster CSD colleagues to bring a therapy dog program to the district three years ago. That invaluable program continues to expand today, assisting both students and staff at a majority of WCSD’s 11 schools, including Spry Middle School and GOAL, thanks to the vision of these award winners.

Mr. Baehr and Mrs. Saiff will be honored along with other 2019 winners during the Region 11 awards ceremony on April 25 at Midvale Country Club. Webster CSD congratulates Mr. Baehr and Mrs. Saiff as 2019 SAANYS Region 11 Administrator of the Year Award winners (Middle and Secondary Level Award categories, respectively) and thanks them for their ongoing commitment to the One Webster community.
