Do You Know a Healthy Hero?
All children need a "hero" to help them eat right and stay active.
The Greater Rochester Health Foundation wants to recognize people who are helping kids stay healthy. These are individuals or groups that have gone above and beyond their normal duties to successfully impact children's nutrition and/or physical activity. Some examples are:
* Organizing a physical activity.
* Changing a school lunch or vending machine policy.
* Organizing their neighbors to address the issues.
* Making a playground safer.
* Starting a community garden.
The Greater Rochester Health Foundation wants to recognize these individuals/groups with a $500 award that will be made as a donation to their organization or an organization of their choice in the spirit of improving the health of children through increased physical activity and improved nutrition. Girls on the Run
The objective of Girls on the Run is to educate and empower girls at an early age in order to prevent the display of at-risk activities in the future. At risk activities include substance/alcohol use, eating disorders, early onset of sexual activity, sedentary lifestyle, depression, suicide attempts and confrontations with the juvenile justice system
Webster Wellness Coordinator applied for and received a grant to offer this program to girls in grade 4 throughout our school district

Clever Crazes for Kids Grants $20,000 in Prizes to Four Participating Schools Clever Crazes for Kids (CCK) presented four schools with checks totaling $20,000 because their students participated in its online wellness program, found at www.clevercrazes.com, that uses animated characters, valuable information and competitive games to encourage children to increase daily physical activity, adopt healthy eating habits, maintain positive self-esteem and help sustain the environment. The checks represent the first round of incentive prizes available to schools, nationwide, that encourage their students to take advantage of the program’s educational and entertaining features. CCK awards prizes on a bi-monthly basis to schools with the highest percentage of students participating in its educational and competitive games at www.clevercrazes.com, as well as schools with students who earned the highest scores on the site. Prizes are awarded to the first-, second- and third-place winners in both categories.
Do you want to sent a Health-e-Card to a friend? CDC recently launched an upgraded version of the Health-e-Cards site. Health-e-Cards, or electronic greeting cards, are used at CDC to encourage healthy living, promote safe activities, or celebrate a health and safety event. Each CDC Health-e-Card features health and safety messages, and provides links to more information, health tips, or safety guidelines. The new eCards site makes it easier to find the card that's right for you by allowing you to search for cards by topic, or by a specific audience.
