FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHEN CAN OUR CHILD ATTEND KINDERGARTEN?
Per New York State, children 5 years old on or before December 1 are eligible to attend Kindergarten.  Use our School Age Calculator (below) to determine if your child is eligible.  Attendance at kindergarten is not compulsory.  If you believe your child is not ready, you are able to wait until the following year to register your child in a school.

HOW LONG WILL OUR STUDENT BE IN SCHOOL?
Webster School District only offers full-day programming (6.5 hours), approximately 9 AM-3:30 PM.

HOW IS SCHOOL PLACEMENT DETERMINED?
Registration is based on residency.  Webster Central School students attend the school assigned to their home address.  Use the School Locator Tool (below) or call Central Registration at (585) 216-0029 for placement information.

IMPORTANT!  Due to high enrollment, Special Education, or English as a New Language services (ENOL), it may be necessary to place your student in a district school outside his/her neighborhood catchment. The District Registrar will discuss this policy with you if your student is affected.
It is highly recommended that you register your child early!

WE WILL USE DAY CARE.  WHICH SCHOOL WILL OUR CHILD ATTEND?
For students in grades K-8 who attend day care:
  • If your students attend a commercial day care, they will attend the school assigned to your address.
  • If your students attend a private day care, they will attend the school assigned to that address.
Looking ahead, per New York State, high school students (grades 9-12) will be enrolled in and attend the school assigned to their home address.

WE WILL BE MOVING INTO THE DISTRICT.  WHEN CAN WE REGISTER OUR CHILD?
Typically, students are registered after families move into the district.  However, with the following documentation, your students can be registered up to 90 days prior to residing in the Webster School District.  Once you move into your new home, provide your school with proof of residency.
  • If you are renting, obtain a letter from your landlord or complex, on letterhead, stating the anticipated move-in date.
  • If you are purchasing a home, obtain a letter from your attorney, on letterhead, stating the anticipated closing date.
  • If you are sharing a home, complete the Shared Housing Affidavit (below) before your registration appointment. Notary services are free and available at Webster Central School District Administrative Offices, town halls, and banks.
  • If you are building a home, request that your builder complete and submit the Builder's Certification Form (below).
CAN OUR CHILD BE REGISTERED BEFORE HIS/HER MEDICAL APPOINTMENT?
Yes; registration packets will be accepted without proof of the necessary immunizations or physical.  However, in compliance with New York State's strict medical requirements for school attendance, your child will not be able to start school in September until the building nurse receives the necessary paperwork.  More information about the requirements can be found in the registration packet.

WHEN DOES TEACHER PLACEMENT OCCUR?
Teacher placement letters are mailed early in August.  All elementary schools will offer an opportunity to tour the building with your student late in August.
