Summer Fun With Webster Schools!

As you read this, Webster students are basking in the afterglow of their last day of school and our senior class is anxiously awaiting their opportunity to walk the commencement stage at RIT on Sunday. While the kids have earned a well-deserved summer break from the regular school routine, I am happy to say that our schools’ doors never really close in the summer for those students wanting to explore educational enrichment opportunities.

One of the district’s core beliefs inherent in our strategic plan is collaboration. That core belief is particularly important during the summer months when we partner with community and parent-driven organizations including our own PTSA, Webster’s Parks and Recreation Department, and many others throughout this community to offer programs focused on ways to enrich what students are learning throughout the school year.

Following is a sampling of some of the programs offered this summer: theatre camps, AP art camps, Camp Invention for elementary-level “scientists”, even safe-driving seminars for our high school students. Many parents have already received communication from their individual schools about enrichment opportunities, but if you would like to know if there will be programs offered at your child’s school, please call your school’s main office.

Aside from these enrichment programs, our most important collaboration is with the families and loved ones of our 8,700+ students. You can enrich your students’ summer learning every day by reading together as a family. A good book on a warm summer night not only builds a lasting memory, but helps your child stay engaged with reading and learning.

I encourage you to visit the excellent community resource we have in the Webster Public Library to make learning enjoyable all summer long! Webster’s secondary students have assigned reading that needs to be completed by September – why not start now? Summer reading lists are available here on our website. Simply type “summer reading” in our search engine, and select the appropriate program level.

Next week, I’ll look forward to sharing a wrap-up of that special commencement day for our high school seniors. We are Webster Schools Proud of their many accomplishments and wish them well as they leave Webster college, career, and community ready!

Regards,
Adele Bovard, Superintendent of Schools
