May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month

Help teach your child the importance of sunscreen and to apply and reapply liberally to help preserve their young, healthy skin and prevent problems in the future. To support this education, our school district allows the application of sunscreen while at school: "Students may use sun screen that is provided by their own parent per label directions."

Other Reminders:

  • Call the attendance number if your child will be absent from school (i.e., ill, out of town, etc.).
  • Please help your child make appropriate choices for outdoor attire. Although the days are starting to get warmer, it is still cool outside and jackets are appropriate. Be aware that the ground might be wet so proper shoes/boots are necessary also.
  • If your child wakes up ill during the night with a fever or vomiting, please keep them home for a day. They can return to school when they have been fever for 24 hours, without medicine.
  • Help prevent playground injuries. Please encourage students to wear sneakers on the playground, not flip-flops.
  • Physical and dental examination reminders have been sent home for students in grades 2 or 4 who have not submitted updated information, which is a NYS requirement. Exams must be dated after 09/01/08 for the 2009-2010 school year. Additional examination forms are available under the "School physical" link listed below.
  • If your child will be entering 6th grade in the fall, don't forget to ask your child's physician about the Tdap immunization requirement.
  • "Kids and aspirin products don't mix." With all the flu information being circulated, we are reminding parents not to give their kids aspirin or aspirin-containing products (like Pepto-Bismal or Kaopectate). Children's chewable pepto is ok, however, because it contains calcium carbonate as the active ingredient. Always check the ingredient labels or ask your pediatrician or pharmacist. For more information on Reye's Syndrome, view this link: http://www.reyessyndrome.org/pdfs/H1N1FluBrochure1.pdf
  • As usual, if you have any health care questions, please call.
