Nonfiction Literacy Skills
for Webster Schools

Research has shown that 80 - 90% of what adults read is nonfiction.  Approximately 96% of sites on the internet contain informational text.  (Kamil and Lane, 1998.)  Learning to become successful consumers of information takes a high level of skill. Students must be able to analyze and prioritize the information given to them at any time, in any subject area. In nonfiction, both print and non-print sources require students to determine the information’s relevancy, reliability, and objectivity.

The links and lesson plans listed here are resources for teachers and librarians to use in their classrooms when working with nonfiction.
